I am a Sun Certified Solaris System Administrator, and work as a UNIX sysadmin at a local ISP called Knossos Networks based in Wellington, New Zealand.

I have used Linux since about 1993, and Solaris since 2000, and my biggest project to date was building a complete Tier 3 Linux based ISP myself. On top of my software and operating system knowledge, I am also knowledgeable in Intel-based hardware, having started my career as a hardware technician. These days, hardware hacking is secondary. :)

I have full experience in Solaris 2.6 – 9, Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and its derivative CentOS, Slackware, and Mac OS X. Having started using computers at the age of eight starting with the Commodore Vic 20, I also started dabbling in programming such as BASIC and Assembly Language. Since then I have also learned C, Pascal, Python, Perl, among others. But because there isn’t much use for my favourite language — Assembler — most of my programming is scripting in bash and gawk now.

I feel comfortable saying I know computers inside and out. I am familiar with all aspects of hardware and software.

In addition to my technical skills, I have diplomas in Creative Writing and Book Editing, Proofreading & Publishing.

In the precious little spare time I have, I play guitar, paint watercolours, dabble in photography, create board/card/roleplaying games (one of which will be published soon), write a heavy metal newsblog called The Metal Lounge, copy-edit for a friends news site The National Review, and probably a bunch of other things I can’t remember right now.

Cool stuff I’ve done in the past:

  • written/edited/published my own pop culture magazine called Level One
  • been president of the local radio control car club, Capital Model Racers
